P2. Animation Comparison

making of dot

for the making of dot a 3D printer was made to make over 150 small figures for dot(50 for each different post and 3 back up for each pose)

for each frame they took one photo of the dot figure running though the wonder land, they could make about 4-5 seconds per day at the speed they where going at and they couldn't go any faster, all the photo's where taken with a nokia phone,

the printer makes dot and what they do they had to was attach it to fine wire and then for painting they had to stop breather for a few seconds so they could paint dot,

making of south park

they have 6 days to make a brand new episode so the story board/design gets given a small portion of the script and they have to make each action into a camera shoots and build it up like a comic book, and they have like an hour per 6-7 pages.

each character is built like a puppet so they characters can be moved(but if its s special type of moment the design guys have to do that movement)

matt and trey go into the recording studio half a dozen times per week and they take 23 minuets to do a 22 minuet script, it is then taken to editing where the hole prodject can be put together into an episode

peppa pig
the 2D animation style of peppa pig is designed in a way so that it makes the animation look like is has been made by young children(which is the shows target audience. using CelAction 2D program.
as always in the animation process the script is written first to get a story outline for one of the 5 minute long peepa pig episodes. then they move onto creating a rouge sketch of the charters for the episode and the storyboard, then the actual episode is made using CelAction 2D, they the voice acting is done and the episode it put together with the voices, then sound is added and they just a phase of fixing it up before its ready to be published

Character Design

"Character design is a combination of physical trails and narrative"

Narrative/storyline defines personality, gives  context (genre, location, setting) there for has to feed into look and design of the character.

the face is the primary channel to express emotion. (-a reason for the many large headed character. A lot can be said with posture and body language - this allows personality that to be identifiable in silhouette.

Solarski - states that how a character carries their physical weight can tell us about their personality - which body part they lead with is important
Hero- leads with their chest

Pelvis-Laid back/Lazy

Head- Intelligent

Knees-  coward

Cuddy
power and dominance resolves around expanding power! Expand-take up-space, Weakness cowers up, makes your self small

Shaggy, leads with Pelvis

Squidward, intelligent, leads with head

making of a gif write ups

Rocket GIF-
1: for the rocket first opened up the document for the rocket photoschop document that was download
2: then go into windows and click animation(timeline) to bring up a time line
3 then click on duplicated selected frame to make a copy of the picture in the time line(do this a couple of times)
4: then on frame one hid all layers apart from flame and , then one frame 2 unhid 2, then on frame 3 unhid 1, then on frame 4 unhid lunch, then on frame 5 unhid flame copy
5: use the duplicated selected frame again to create some more frames
6: then ctrl click flame and flame copy, and slowly move the rocker up frame by frame, or on the last frame move flame and flame copy up to the top and use the tween tool which will create the rest of the movement
7:the  click file save for web and save it as a gif
2 ROTOSCOPE
1 first record a small clip of someone moving
2 in photoshop click file, import, video from layers to frame
3 it will then ask to select the part of the video you want, use the sliders to find the small clip you want to use and make sure to click, to every 2 frames
4  then go into windows and click animation(timeline) to bring up a time line
5 (very important) create a new layer to put above the video layers and then draw on that new layer over the body, this way you can then hid the video clip layer to see the image, make sure not to draw on the video layer
6 after you have done make sure to hid all layers that are not your rotoscope unless its a background you have added it
7 the  click file save for web and save it as a gif
3 AFTER EFFECTS
1 go into photoshop and make a new document and from preset click film/video
2 make a new layer and make a circle, then repeat this but for, left arm, right arm, left leg, right leg, and eyes, its important that each body part has its own layer, then save the document as a normal photoshop document
3 then open up after effects and import the photoshop document
4 click on all the layers apart from the body, then use the parent tool to and drag that down to the body layer(now when the body moves all other layers will move with it
5 use the key frames to make the body move slightly
6 download the yeah boy music film
7 take photo's of your self saying yeah boy, open them up in photoshop and either trace round them or look at them and draw them, save the file as a photoshop one and import it to after effects
8 in after effects we open the photoshop file into a new composition and line the mouth moves up in the way we need to make it look like the mouth is moving
8 then in the other composition we open the moving mouth and place it in the middle of the body, use the parenting tool to attach the mouth and it is done
9 insert the music then save the file and it should work

Bear walking cycle

1 first we exported the bear photoshop file into after effects
2 move the anchor points for the arms and legs
3 set a key frame from the body shot moves and and down as it walks
4 do the same for the arms and legs to make the move
5 used the puppet tool to move the arms and legs to it looks more realistic
